DIY: Eco-Friendly Gift Wrapping

Happy holidays, babe! This year we’re taking more of an eco-friendly approach to gift wrapping. The holidays are filled with so much excess (food, packaging, gift wrapping, etc.), so we wanted to show you a few little ways to cut down on your waste this season. Even if it’s small, doing your part to be more environmentally friendly makes a BIG impact.

STEP 1

  • Remove handles, cut down the seem, and cut out the bottom of the bag to make a flat peice of paper.

Wrapping Options: paper bag, old magazine/newspaper, cloth, old denim

*get creative and use things you would normally throw out. Up-cycling not only helps the environment, but also doesn’t break the bank on expensive gift bags and wrapping paper!

STEP 2

  • Wrap your present so that the plain brown side will be the exterior and the side with the writing is facing up

STEP 3

  • instead of ribbon, we chose to use string. After the gift is open you can save the string and use it again!

STEP 4

  • for decor we chose to use pine branches. You can also use leaves, twigs, dried flowers, or cute things laying around your home instead of buying little plastic decorations that will get thrown away.

*If you are able to, try buying any plant decor from local vendors/florists instead of a super market. This helps support local businesses and people in your community!

STEP 5

  • To address your gift, write directly on the paper instead of buying a package of sticky tags. You can also make your own tag/card from recycled paper, cardboard, or cloth.

We hope you try these gift wrapping ideas this year to be a little more mindful of the environment. Remember sustainability is sexy so don’t hesitate when it comes to making little changes that have a great impact.
