The goal of sorority rush is for both the sorority members and potential new members (often abbreviated to PNMs) to find a good match based on shared values, interests, and personalities.
During sorority rush, potential new members typically attend events hosted by different sororities on campus, such as meet-and-greets, philanthropy events, and preference (pref) parties. Each round of events allows both parties to learn more about each other and for the sororities to narrow down their choices for new members.
At the end of the process, potential new members receive "bids," which are formal invitations to join a sorority. They can choose to accept or decline these bids, and if they accept, they become full members of the sorority.
